Like all others, you must be thinking that dieting is a sure-fire way to lose weight. However, it might come as a shock to you, that contrary to popular belief, dieting tends to promote weight gain.
Here’s the statistics to support my contention
Reviewing 31 studies on dieting, a team of researchers at UCLA found that two-thirds of the people who went on dieting regained more weight than they lost. Now that you are assured that you need not go on starvation diets or forego your favorite foods for bringing or keeping your weight under control, let’s look at some other ways to lose weight.
Apply Some Brakes:
I am not referring to putting brakes on your vehicles and instead going for a walk. Well, even that’snot a bad idea but what I am referring to here is slowing down the pace at which you gulp down morsels. Eat slowly and chew at length. Did you ever observe cows and goats ruminating and did you ever saw them working hard to lose weight? Jokes apart, chewing slowly helps you get pleasure and satisfaction even with small portions of food.
Tip : Take five deep breaths before starting your meal. This slows down your nervous system and urge to finish your meal quickly.
Keep eating healthy foods in small quantities throughout the day. This is because if you keep starving all through the day and then sit down for your meal for the day you might tend to overeat. Also, it is very difficult to make healthy food choices if you are hungry and then waiting for meal time.
Tip: All through the day keep eating healthy foods including vegetable sticks, yogurt, dry fruits, apple slices, etc.
Go for Weight Loss Supplements:
A number of weight loss supplements are designed to increase your metabolic rate. They also help you curb your cravings which brings down your food intake. These weight loss supplements make you feel full by promoting the feeling of satiety.
Tip: Clearly follow the instructions given along with the weight loss supplements to experience the expected results.
Keep Replenishing Your Body with Liquids:
Most of the people drink water only during meal time. This is not right as it is important to stay hydrated throughout the day. Calculate your body weight and drink about half of your body weight in ounces. Did you know that increasing water intake can keep hunger pangs at bay? So, why not just now grab a glass of water and gulp it down.
Tip: You can increase your liquid intake by flavoring water with herbs and fruits. You can also go for green tea once a day.
Maintain a Food Journal:
In order to be accountable the food choices, you need to maintain a journal in which you jot down whatever you eat. This way, when you know even the small random bites you take through the day, you will realize and feel accountable about the quality of food you are eating. It will also help you keep a track of the number of calories you are consuming.
