The New Wonder Food!

Flaxseed is the new wonder food. Studies show that flaxseed may help everything from heart disease, stroke and diabetes to breast cancer.  This tiny seed has been around for centuries and has been known as the most powerful plant foods.

Flaxseed was cultivated in Babylon in 3000 BC..  King Charlimagne believed in this health benefit. He passed a law requiring his people to consume it.

Thirteen centuries later, experts would say we have researched this to back up what Charlimagne suspected all those years ago.  This was successful.

Flaxseed is found in all kinds of foods, such as crackers, frozen waffles and oatmeal. It is reported that close to 300 new flax-based products have been introduced in the U.S in 2010.  Each tablespoon of ground flaxseed contains 1.8 grams of omega -3s.  Lignans has plant estrogen and antioxidient qualities. Flaxseed has 75-800 times more lignans than other plant foods. Fiber-flaxseed contains both soluble and insoluble types.

Flaxseed may have a protective effect against cancer, particularly breast, prostrate and colon. At least two of the components in flaxseed seem to contribute. Animal studies have shown, omega-3 acid found in flaxseed inhibited tumor incidence and growth. Further, the lignans in flaxseed will give some protection against cancer that are sensitive to hormones. Studies have shown that exposure to lignans during adolescense helps reduce the risk of breast cancer and may also increase the survival of the patient.
Eating flaxseed daily may help your cholesterol levels too. And the daily intake of the
lignans in flaxseed may improve blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes.
Two tablespoons of flaxseed mixed into cereal, juice or yogurt twice a day, cuts women’s hot flashes in half that are in menopause. Women noticed the difference in a 2 week time period.
