Skim or Almond Milk?

Have you ever tried almond milk?

Almond milk is a milky drink made from ground almonds.  It contains no cholesterol or lactose and is very high in Vitamin E and antioxidants and we know that Vitamin E is an important antioxidant for normal heart and brain function, as well as a healthy complexion. It provides 50% of the daily value of this essential nutrient.

Most people tend to pick skim milk over dairy products because of its protein and fat free nature.  However, both skim milk and almond milk has a low caloric content in addition to less than 200 mgs. of sodium and 10 mgs. of cholesterol.  And good news for vegetarians and vegans — Almond milk does not contain any animal products.

Although one cup of plain almond milk contains about 30 mgs. more sodium than skim milk, it does contain higher levels of iron, lower levels of sugar, which translates into lower carbohydrate content. (Skim milk has 12 grams of sugar, which equals 12 grams of carbs.  Almond milk has only 8 grams of carbs per serving)

I have tried Almond milk and love it.  I add it to my cereal in the morning.  So, give it a try.  You’ll be surprised at how good it really is.
