Battle of the Bulge – Part 3

Here is the third blog in our “Battle of the Bulge” summer series, a list of 15 food items that help us lose the weight that we so want to lose.  If you haven’t seen the first or second blog in this series, be sure to go back and read them.  They are sure to bring a lot of insight as well as a few surprises.  Here is this week’s three food items that assist in losing those unwanted pounds.

1. Lean Beef

Where’s the beef?  Yep, that’s right.  If you are trying to shed those unwanted pounds, eating anywhere from nine to ten ounces of beef a day on a roughly 1,700 calorie diet really helped women shed those unwanted pounds and fat.  Not only does beef prove to be good for you because of the amino acid leucine, you’ll find that beefeaters also had fewer hunger pangs.  So, put the chicken aside for a week and try the lean beef option.  And see how you do.

2. Olive Oil

Perfect if you want to fight off middle-age pounds, olive oil is a monounsaturated fat that will help you burn calories. As stated in an article from Good Housekeeping, “according to an Australian study, 12 postmenopausal women (ages 57 to 73) were given a breakfast cereal dressed either with a mixture of cream and skim milk or half an ounce of olive oil and skim milk. The women who ate the oil-laced muesli boosted their metabolism. Don’t want to add olive oil to your oatmeal? That’s OK — it works just as well in salad dressings, as a bread dip, or for sautéing.”

3. Grapefruit

Believe it or not…this is one thing I have always done.  Studies have shown that eating half a grapefruit before each meal helped people drop more than three pounds over three months. The fruit is responsible for reducing insulin levels because of its phytochemicals, which is believed to force your body to convert calories into energy rather than flab.

Come back next week when we will highlight the next three food items that assist in shedding those unwanted pounds.
