Have you ever tried yoga? You know, in today’s world where most of us are sitting at computers, driving, cooking and cleaning, we are bound to feel an increased level of stress, have poor posture and flexibility, and feel un-centered and distracted.
Yoga has been around for over 5,000 years. Isn’t that something? And almost 11 million Americans practice yoga and are finding great health benefits to it.
Most yoga classes will focus primarily on physical poses, breathing techniques and sometimes a form of meditation. Some people will often shy away from yoga because they assume it’s for those who need to stretch like a gymnast. This is so far from the truth. Everyone, young and old, can benefit from yoga. Not only does it improve flexibility, it relaxes the lactic acid that builds up with muscle use that causes stiffness, tension, pain and fatigue. It may also increase lubrication in the joints. Yoga also stretches soft tissues in your body like your ligaments and tendons that surrounds your muscles.
A lot of yoga enthusiasts will do yoga for relaxation. And some will do it to increase their flexibility by safely stretching. And then there are those who do it for better posture and better breathing techniques.
Now here is the best part. No matter what level of yoga you do, you most likely will see results in a very short period of time. And these results include less stress, lower blood pressure and an overall improvement in well being.
So, do some fact-finding. Call your local YMCA or gym, and see if they offer yoga. Go give it a try. I am really confident that you will get hooked!
